Stuart Alexander

Stuart has spent over 30 years in the funds industry predominantly in the distribution arena, raising assets and working with a number of high-profile investment manager such as Morgan Grenfell in the 80s, Invesco in the 90s and Insight in the 00s. Stuart founded the GemCap Group in 2009 and is the Chief Executive of the UK business; he is also a Director and the Designated Person for Distribution in Dublin.  In his spare time, he loves climbing mountains and is looking forward to bagging more Munros and Wainwrights whilst his knees can carry him.

Conor Hoey

Having graduated from Trinity College Dublin (1991), Conor Hoey joined Prudential Corporation in London as a graduate trainee and worked in a number of business units including being a key part of the team that set up the UK’s first Internet Bank, Egg, in 1998. He then worked in Investment Consultancy for Bacon & Woodrow (Hewitt), advising asset managers on DC pension strategies and The UK Financial Services Authority on investment performance. He joined Mellon Bank in 2000 and Headed up their UK and Irish Sales & Relationship team in the Fund Administration arena, thereby having his first foray into the Irish funds sector. Following a short spell as a Director at Capita PLC in the mid-2000s, he joined Royal Bank of Canada in 2008 and headed up their Sales and Relationship team in the UK, in particular focusing on growing RBC’s business in Ireland. Having lived in the UK from 1992, Conor moved back to Dublin in 2015 to help establish Gemini Capital and is now Chief Executive of the business.  He is a holder of the Investment Management Certificate and is a Certified Investment Fund Director with the Irish Institute of Banking.  In his spare time, he is Chairman of Drogheda United Football club and is a director of a number of other companies.

Gerard Scully

Gerard joined GemCap in 2020 having previously worked for 16 years at the Irish Stock Exchange (now Euronext Dublin) as part of the senior management team including as Director of International Primary Markets. Prior to that he carried out roles with Irish licenced banks and financial institutions, including as Head of Legal and Compliance for Maxblue, and Legal Adviser with Swiss Bank Corporation (now UBS).  Gerard served on the ESMA Consultative Working Group on Corporate Finance and was formerly a member of the Board of the Irish Auditing Standards Supervisory Authority. He is qualified as a solicitor in Ireland, England and Wales, was called to the English Bar, holds a BA in Legal Science from Trinity College Dublin and MA in International and Comparative Business Law from Guildhall University.   In his spare time Gerard is secretary of junior athletics club Cabinteely AC and enjoys swimming, running and cycling

Sohaïl Mered

Sohaïl has over 15 years’ experience as in-house counsel with leading global asset managers, beginning in New York and moving to London, Paris and Dublin. Prior to joining GemCap Sohaïl was with State Street Global Advisors where she served as senior legal counsel for 9 years, advising its regulated investment firms in France and Ireland on all aspects of their EU institutional business, including corporate governance, regulatory, and client matters, as well as multiple corporate restructurings.  Sohaïl also served as co-chair of SSGA’s Global Diversity Council, and member of State Street’s Global Pro Bono Committee. Sohaïl is a member of the New York Bar and holds a Bachelor of Science in Foreign Service from Georgetown University and a Juris Doctor from Case Western Reserve University School of Law. Originally from Algeria, and raised in the U.S, Sohaïl is bilingual in French and English.

In her free time, Sohaïl enjoys volunteering in her community.

Stacey O’Neill

Stacey has worked in company secretarial and legal administration roles for over 7 years across multiple industries. She has worked for Maples and Calder, Mainstream Renewable Power and Zurich Insurance plc. During this time she worked on the implementation of GDPR and global privacy laws, company incorporation and dissolution across multiple jurisdictions and corporate insurance renewals. For the last 2 years Stacey has managed global registrations for reinsurance licences along with performing company secretarial duties for several Irish and UK subsidiaries. She holds a BCL in Civil Law and an LL.M in International Commercial Law from UCD. In her spare time Stacey is an avid reader and enjoys going to the theatre.

Brian Ormande-Murphy

Brian joined GemCap in 2021 with 15 years’ experience in the financial services sector in Ireland and the UK.  His positions included client services, regulatory reporting and compliance, and he has experience of working with various European regulators.

Previous roles include working with AFEX Markets Europe Ltd, an Irish MiFID II investment firm, as Head of Compliance and Risk for all European activities, liaising closely on Central Bank of Ireland authorisation, BREXIT transitioning and rolling out operations across the EEA region. He’s also worked on regulatory reporting and compliance at Broadridge (formerly FundAssist), focusing on UCITS fund documentation, and been involved with projects such as GDPR implementation, while completing an MSc in Compliance at University College Dublin.  Brian’s also worked at a mortgage brokerage, 2 Irish stockbrokers and Blackrock Investment Management in their Edinburgh office. 

Brian is the holder of two law related degrees from Waterford Institute of Technology and completed the MSc in Compliance through UCD. He is a certified Data Protection Officer, Financial Crime Prevention Practitioner and a Fellow of the Compliance Institute. Brian is currently working through the MA in Ethics (Corporate Responsibility) with DCU.

Emily Gallagher

Emily worked for a number of years in the financial services industry and first started her career in Bank of Ireland as a Welcome Advisor and then as a Branch Supervisor. Following this she pursued a career in financial compliance by working as a Test and Control Analyst for Accenture. She recently completed a Professional Certificate in Compliance with the Irish Institute of Banking and will continue her education by undertaking a Masters degree in Compliance.

Emily graduated from Trinity College Dublin in 2017 with a joint BA Honours in Ancient History and Archaeology and has a Masters degree in Preventive Conservation from Cardiff University, Wales. This sparked an interest in stakeholder management, culminating in the submission of her final dissertation based on external stakeholder engagement. She enjoys travelling to museums and archaeological sites as it gives her the opportunity to explore her interest in history. In her spare time she also enjoys reading fantasy books and staying active by going to the gym and swimming.

Sinéad Sheehan

Sinéad joined GemCap as Head of Operational Oversight in May 2019 and also became Designated Person for Operational Risk in March 2020. She worked in the fund administration and financial services industry since 2000, most notably holding positions at Credit Suisse, RBC Investor and Treasury Services and BISYS Hedge Fund Services working across areas spanning operations, client change, client onboarding and project management. She holds a BA in Economics and Sociology and a H.Dip in Computer Science from University College Cork. She also completed a Professional Certificate in Investment Fund Services from The Institute of Bankers in Ireland.  In her spare time Sinéad has a passion for travel and interacting with different cultures.

Cherie Quah

Cherie graduated with a Bachelor of Business majoring in Accounting and Finance.  Cherie has experience across all parts of the Investor Services value chain and joined GemCap in 2020.  She is 4th generation Malaysian Chinese and speak 4 languages.  In Malaysia, she volunteers with an animal welfare group involved in rescue and fostering work.

Ciarán Whooley

Ciarán graduated with a BComm and accounting post-graduate in UCD, trained with Arthur Andersen and qualified as a Chartered Accountant and with the Irish Taxation Institute.  Having worked in fund administration with JP Morgan Chase, he joined Global Investment Systems (“GIS”), a provider of software solutions to the funds industry as Head of Client Services EMEA.  GIS was acquired by Linedata, a global software solutions vendor and plc headquartered in Paris, and Ciarán became country head and executive director of its Irish operation.  He also has a Professional Certificate in Operational Risk in Investment Funds.  He joined GemCap in September 2021 as Designated Person for Capital and Financial Management.  He enjoys golf, travel and music, playing guitar and singing weekly at a number of retirement homes in the locality.

Mantvydas Jokubaitis

Mantvydas joined GemCap in 2021, having previously worked as Analyst in RBC Investor and Treasury Services within the Fund Accounting Oversight Department.  Mantvydas holds a degree in Chinese and International Business and is studying for a Higher Diploma in Data Analytics. Originally from Lithuania, Mantvydas has been an Irish resident for the last 10 years and likes to spend his free time hiking and exploring Ireland.

Pratik Varadkar

Pratik completed his Bachelor of Commerce and worked in the financial services sector with Lloyds Bank PLC and an Accounting Firm before moving to Ireland in 2019 to pursue his Masters in International Accounting and Finance. He is an ardent football and cricket fan with an interest for all kinds of physical activities. He also has a penchant for a good thriller or mystery novel on days where the weather does not allow him to leave the house.

Peter has over 10 years’ experience in the Financial Services Industry. He worked for a number of years with KBC Fund Management where he was a Portfolio Manager on the structured funds team. Here he was responsible for managing a number of AIF and UCITS strategies on behalf of the firm. Peter has also worked as a futures trader where he focused on a number of short-term strategies across multiple assets classes including European and US Equities, Fixed Income and Commodities. Peter has spent the last few years working in the Management Company space where he has held roles in the areas of Investment Management and Risk Management. 

Peter holds a BSc in Economics and Finance from UCD and an MSc in Quantitative Finance from the Smurfit School of Business. In his spare time if he is not out walking his dog, Peter likes to get out for a few holes of golf.

John has more than two decades of experience in the Investment and Funds industry. He started his career in 1999 as a Performance & Risk Analyst at Bank of Ireland Asset Management where he was responsible for GIPS compliance in addition to analysing the performance and risk characteristics of the firm’s product range globally. Subsequently he moved into front office roles as a Trader and Investment Analyst with IG International Management before progressing to become a Global Equity Fund Manager with PI Investment Management Ltd, where he co-managed a Global Equity Fund for more than six years.

After a two year stint working in the Shareholding Management Unit of Ireland’s National Treasury Management Agency, John joined Davy Research as a Research Analyst where he conducted research on a range of sectors including Leisure and Media. He entered the Manco space in 2015, working as Head of Portfolio Management with Crossroads Capital Management for 3 years. Prior to joining GemCap, John was Head of Investments and Designated Person for Investment Management at KB Associates where he was responsible for overseeing the Manco’s extensive UCITS and AIF business, overseeing a broad range of Investment Managers globally across multiple asset classes. Additionally, John was a member of the Executive Committee and the Board of Directors of a Self-Managed Investment Company.

John holds a B.A. (Mod) in Mathematics from Trinity College Dublin and a Certificate in Investment Management from Dublin City University/CFA Society Ireland. He became a CFA charterholder in 2003 and served as a Director of CFA Society Ireland for 14 years. He enjoys playing golf and tennis, reading, running, cycling and watching GAA.

Anna has worked in a number of roles in the financial services industry. These include audit and consulting roles in EY and KPMG in Dublin, and an accounting and finance role in Vancouver. Following this she pursued a career in the Funds industry as a Risk Analyst in Bridge Fund Management in 2021, where she worked closely with numerous UCITs and AIFs, completing onboarding work, risk analysis and daily monitoring of risk data. She recently completed a Professional Certificate in Investment Fund Services with the Irish Institute of Banking.

Anna graduated from University College Dublin in 2017 with a Bachelor of Commerce and holds an MSc in Finance from the UCD Michael Smurfit Business School, which she completed in 2018. She also completed an MA in International Relations from DCU.

In her spare time Anna enjoys to travel and stay active with activities such as yoga and running.
